Dayton Air Show
AUGUST 04, 2007 - Posted by Ben
So, last weekend was the Dayton Air Show, and it was amazing as always. It was probably my tenth or so air show (can you confirm Dad? :), and it didn't disappoint. Jason, John, Matt, Dan, Mom and I had a chalet package that my Mom won through a contest. Basically, we had second row seats to the whole thing, as well as free food, drink, and air conditioning.
I don't know how many of you have been to an air show before, but they are always quite enthralling. The pilots gets to show off what they and their aircraft can do, and it's always one hell of as how. Unfortunately, one pilot lost his life this year when he couldn't pull his plane out of a dive, and it collided with the ground. Jim LeRoy died on the way to the hospital after being airlifted out of the crash site. In a very brave act, his two partners continued their demonstration the next day, when we were at the show, memorializing their fallen comrade.
Some of the highlights of the show for me were the B-1 bombers flying over, the Brazilian Smoke Squadron's sky-writing, and the Thunderbirds insane demonstration, where they cross in front of each other just a few meters away.
All in all, it was a fantastic show, and I look forward to going again next year!
Check out the pictures from the show here.
Cheers,
Ben
